I want to start with my son's death. This intensely personal event evokes political reflection.
My son Raymond died four weeks ago (December 29, 2008) at the age of 39. He literally was the oldest person in the world severely affected with Cornelia deLange Syndrome. His life lasted incredibly longer than the maximum of two years predicted at birth, and yet, I am convinced, he died an untimely death. Taken to the hospital with an elbow injury, less than two days later he is dead - probably from a Haldol-induced heart attack.
